Donor Information Privacy Policy

ADOPTED 6/5/2017

The Freire Charter School Foundation (“Foundation”) is highly sensitive to the privacy interests of donors and believe that the protection of those interests is an important responsibility. The Foundation has therefore adopted the following Donor Information Privacy Policy.

Definition of Donor Information. The donor information collected by Freire Foundation generally consists of but is not necessarily limited to the donor’s name, company, email address, phone number, and mailing address.

Sale of Information. The Foundation will never sell or rent donor information to unrelated individuals or companies.

Assumption of Risk. While the Foundation takes reasonable steps to protect against the loss, misuse, and unauthorized alteration of the information under its control, donor information is provided voluntarily and by providing personally identifying information donors accept a certain level of inherent risk. When donors submit payment information to the Foundation online, they consent to providing payment information to the Foundation and its service provider(s) processing the donation to the extent required to process the donation. When the Foundation collects payment information directly from donors, the Foundation transmits this payment information directly to the service provider.

Disclosure to Third Party Business Partners. The Foundation protects donor information by working with well-respected business partners that provide services safely and securely. The Foundation may use third parties for purposes including but not limited to operating and improving its websites, providing tools embedded in its websites and services, processing credit card transactions, assisting in providing services, delivering electronic and paper communications, and maintaining and backing up information. These third parties may have access to donor information in the course of business in order to provide these services. Donor information shared with a third party becomes subject to the third party’s own privacy policy, for which the Foundation is not responsible.

Disclosure for Legal Reasons. The Foundation and its third party partners may disclose donor information when compelled through due process, such as a subpoena or court order, or when legal counsel believes that disclosure of information is required.

Freire Network. The Foundation has no employees and does not operate any programs, but exists for the benefit of the Freire Charter Schools and is managed by Build the Future Education Collaborative. Donor information may be shared among organizations (the “Freire network”). The Foundation may disclose donor information to any successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, or other reorganization.

Removal of Donor Information. Due to recordkeeping requirements, donors cannot request to have all information completely removed from the Foundation’s and third parties’ systems.

Opt Out. Donors may always opt out of receiving future communications from the Foundation.

Changes to the Policy. The Foundation reserves the right to change this policy from time to time as it is periodically reviewed and updated. If the Foundation changes this policy, changes will be posted to the Foundation’s website. By using the Foundation’s website, donors agree to be bound by the revised policy.
