Henry "Hank" Bohinick

Luca Del Negro Private Lesson Award Fund

Luca Del Negro began his teaching career in 1957, teaching Junior and Senior High School instrumental music in Springfield. During Luca’s tenure at Springfield High School, the band and orchestra received many accolades including two gold medals won by the band at a world festival in Holland. The dance band was invited to play at the New York World’s Fair. The band also played at the inauguration of the Phillies Veterans Stadium. Locally, Springfield hosted numerous District and Regional Band and Orchestra Festivals as well as host for the Eastern State Pennsylvania Orchestra Festival. Luca was also president of PMEA District 12 for two years.

This award is presented to interested students who want to study music privately and need financial assistance. Students receiving this award are required to demonstrate progress at the end of each semester of study.

The Dennis G. Lauffer Vocal Scholarship

Dennis Lauffer was the vocal director for Springfield High School in the 60s.

This award is presented to a Springfield High School rising junior or senior student for the purpose of contributing to and providing progressional vocal training during their senior year.

The Skip Werley Basketball Scholarship

Mike Okino Scholarship Fund

Mike Okino was a class of 1977 SHS graduate who was a dedicated athlete in the district. He developed a love for baseball and was the pitcher for SHS, American Legion, and Drexel University. After hanging up his cleats, his love for sports continued. He participated in a fantasy football league with friends and coached his son's baseball teams. Those who knew and loved Mike will always remember him for his selflessness, kindness, his ability to encourage others, and being the voice of reason.

The Anthony "AJ" Grande Scholaships

AJ was a 2021 graduate of Springfield High School. He was an amazing athlete and student. Although AJ enjoyed school, he thrived as a member of the varsity baseball and basketball teams. He was also active in many clubs at school, including the Steve Stefani Dance Marathon (Thon). AJ was a quiet young man who let his actions speak for him. For 18 months, AJ battled a rare form of cancer; however, he did not let this cancer define him. He fought bravely, and the Springfield School District community rallied to support him.

This award is presented to two Springfield High School seniors who have demonstrated strength of character, concern for others, and a strong moral fiber in their high school experiences, particularly on their athletic teams. Candidates are students who demonstrate leadership skills through their actions and positive commitment to their teammates and classmates.

When we make our technology or services available to business partners, we will not share with them any more consumer information than is necessary, and we will make every reasonable effort to assure, by contract or otherwise, that they use our technology and services in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Policy.
