Event Description:

An Exploration of Stained Glass: A look at an ancient craft and the science behind it Little has changed in the construction of stained glass throughout the centuries and yet it’s easy to get caught up in the awe of a stained glass window and wonder, how is that made? Stained glass windows are architectural features that stand at the crossroads of science, engineering, and art. Light passes through colored glass, illuminates our sacred places, and captures our imagination—yeah, but how is it made?

This event will be a hands-on, introductory stained glass workshop that will demystify the centuries old craft of stained glass. Over the course of 75-90 minutes the workshop will explain and demonstrate how stained glass is made—and a bit of the science behind the ancient craft. Attendees will gain an understanding of the materials involved in stained glass, learn some basic glass cutting skills, and we’ll also look at many different types of glass and discuss how light is affected by color and texture.
